Home-Based Language Translation Consultant (Mandarin & English)

Role Details

A multinational company operating a business process outsourcing operations in Malaysia is looking for home-based call translation agents who are fluent in Mandarin or Cantonese and English, with ability to read Chinese characters.

Role Duties

  1. To renders correct concepts and meanings between Mandarin / Cantonese and English following complexity, clarity, tone, and style from one language into another, upholding the correct rules for grammar and syntax in both languages
  2. The calls may involve simple or complex, nontechnical or technical subjects in Healthcare, Government, Insurance, Finance, Utilities, Travel and Hospitality, 911 emergency services, Law Enforcement, Courts, and General Business.
  3. Provides strict renditions of the messages including every detail of the conversation, and is prepared for challenging calls at any time
  4. Employs good customer service and communication skills, clear enunciation, pronunciation, pleasant and professional voice, as well as polite forms of expressions
  5. Follows instructions of clients, manages the flow of the call and avoid taking over the call, as well as avoids interaction with the limited English speaker person without the client’s permission
  6. Understands interpreting protocol and terminology in the various fields of the clients
  7. Remains calm during calls in the event that one of the primary speakers is incoherent or upset, especially in emergency situations
  8. Remains punctual and available during scheduled work hours
  9. Ensures access to the Internet for work related electronic communication


  1. Native fluency in Mandarin or Cantonese and English (spoken)
  2. Able to read Mandarin / Chinese characters
  3. Have a dedicated phone landline
  4. Excellent listening, retention and note taking skills to maintain a high level of accuracy
  5. Thorough knowledge of medical and other industry terminology; on-going study of glossaries and training materials including scripts provided by clients
  6. Completion of High school education
  7. Education in languages/translation/interpretation and/or healthcare-related fields is preferred but not essential
  8. The hiring process will include written and audio language assessments
  9. Must be competent to use computer and the various applications
  10. PC / Notebook with webcam
  11. Head-set and telephone
  12. Venue is your Home (It is essential to ensure a quiet and secure Environment)

Terms of the Role

  1. Salary: RM 4,800 per month
  2. Benefits : EPF, SOCSO, Annual Leave (12 days), MC 14 days, Hospitalization Leave (60 days), Medical Coverage and Insurance
  3. Period of Employment : 12 months Contract / Renewable
  4. Working Hours : Minimum 40 hours per week  (*Work Day and Work Time schedule as per company discretion only – 24/7) – Changes will be made every quarter
  5. Training : 1 month paid training (Paid Training / with salary)
  6. Training Schedule : Compulsory to complete 4 weeks training (Week 4: ISA Test)
